My time in the Big Horns was some of the most peaceful camping I’ve ever done. But eventually it was time to move on and the Wind River Range was calling my name…
Cell Phone Signal?
This was the only place in the Big Horn range where I could get a cell phone signal.
Too bad the views were awful.
Medicine Wheel
Located on Medicine Mountain, the Medicine Wheel is one of North America’s most well preserved Native American sacred places.
It’s at least 250 years old. Even today, the site is sacred to many different tribes across the US.
Offerings tied to the rope fence or left within the wheel are from those who have made the pilgrimage to the site. Ceremonies still take place here regularly.
I was accompanied by crows during my hike out. A few even stopped and talked with me for a while.

Exploring the Big Horn Mountains
At more than 8500 ft. elevation, it’s incredible to watch the weather roll through the mountains.
During the summer months, much of the region is open range which means cattle can pop up anywhere. (Even in your campsite at 5:30a!)
Remote Camping in Wyoming’s Big Horn Mountains
With the Jamboree trails as my introduction to this beautiful mountain range, I decided to stick around a while for some off-grid camping and exploration.
