During our recent stay in Salem, MA, we met some friendly folks who recommended a stop in Hermann, a small town in the heart of Missouri’s wine country.
Believe it or not, the city of Hermann owns and operates its own campground, right in the middle of town!
In the event of fire, we were golden — the fire department was only a few steps from our site.
Hermann was founded in 1837 by the German Settlement Society of Philadelphia and is a lovely town with more wineries, distilleries, and breweries than you can shake a stick at. I counted at least a dozen makers of adult beverages and the last census puts Hermann’s population at 2,431.
To accompany all of this, Hermann offers an unusually large number of fine restaurants and bakeries.
Mostly, we just enjoyed the simple peace and quiet of this quaint southern town.
