Clio 1.0

Clio Output

Clio 1.0

Since early 2007, I have headed development efforts on a patent pending technology capable of autonomous music analysis.  This process (called Clio) makes possible new directions in musical research, and has spawned side projects in the areas of digital rights management, music discovery, model-based machine composition, and copyright law.

Orpheus 2.0

Orpheus™ began life in 2006 as the industry's first web-based music customization solution. Orpheus 2.0 is a complete reworking of the original design concept, capable of generating *new* musical ideas from existing models. While still in the early stages of development, Orpheus is already finding application as an intelligent composition tool.

Dionysia Patches (Pure Data)

Through years of theatrical sound design experience, I've developed a robust collection of PD patches that perform complex real-time processing while maintaining a simple front end. The system receives information about an ongoing performance through custom control interfaces, and provides discrete control over multi-channel audio.

Works & Process (Guggenheim)
image

In early April, I served as composer and sound designer for "Exploring Light" a Works & Process presentation at New York's Guggenheim Museum featuring Tony Award-winning lighting designer Jennifer Tipton, choreographer Dana Reitz, and director Jackson Gay.

Since 1984 and in over 300 productions, Works & Process at the Guggenheim has been a pioneer in creating groundbreaking and carefully crafted programs that provide unprecedented access to today's leading performing artists, choreographers, composers, writers, directors, poets, and minds. Each program uniquely blends performance, demonstration, and discussion among creative collaborators and explores the creative process.

Following often sold-out performances in the intimate Frank Lloyd Wright–designed 285-seat theater, a reception for the audience and artists takes place in the museum's rotunda. Described by the New York Times as "a popular series devoted to shedding light on the creative process," by the Village Voice as "revelatory," and by the New Yorker as "exceptional," Works & Process has become well-respected by both artists and audiences alike, and is produced by Mary Sharp Cronson.

"Exploring Light" was presented Sun and Mon, Apr 6 and 7 @ 7:30pm.

Precipice Reviews

Precipice Cover ArtVirtuoso marimbist Nathaniel Bartlett's hybrid SACD "Precipice" (Albany TROY855) has been enjoying a good deal of critical praise. With the recent NY Times review and frequent appearance of selected tracks on NPR's "Music Interludes" playlists, I thought it appropriate to revisit this innovative project.
